Christmas Bowling

In the past few years Christmas has changed a lot for my family. My sister and I are the youngest of our extended cousins, and as everyone has gone on to have their own families they've stopped coming to Christmas brunch.

And Christmas without children is really different that Christmas with children. At first, this change REALLY bummed me out. But this year Jay and I decided to take the holiday in our own hands and make new traditions. I read about Brooke at inchmark's family bowling tradition and got inspired. (Thanks inchmark!!!) It was a perfect idea.

Jay and Jarrett surprised us all with bowling shirts. Matt and I are working on a trophy. And as our little family grows we can expand the night to include bumper lanes and kiddos - no matter where we spend the holiday. It's brilliant really.

Matt and I claimed the first-ever Varble family Christmas Bowl-a-Roll. Everyone laughed and had fun. And eventually my mom got into the groove with some strikes. It was a great night and the beginning of a great tradition.

3 musings:

  1. I absolutely love this! It's true that Christmas is an ever-changing holiday as you get older, and this is a great time to start a new tradition. :)

  2. This new tradition has made me very happy as I know that my boys and their families not coming to brunch has upset your Mom greatly. Please know that this does not mean they don't love you all any less. I certainly hope that as long as your Mom has Christmas brunch Uncle Don and I are a part of it. Love you all so much!
